Frequently asked questions

Newborn

How old should my baby be for a newborn session?

Your baby will ideally be between 7 - 15 days old. During this window of time, babies are very sleepy, easily posable, less fussy and have become accustomed to nursing. As newborns get older (15+ days), they tend to be more challenging to pose and settle and have longer wake periods. For these reasons, it's absolutely essential that the newborn is scheduled early. If, however, you have an older newborn, please reach out. We regularly photograph older babies and we would be happy to accommodate last-minute bookings whenever our schedule permits.

When should I book a newborn session?

Please book your newborn portrait session before your baby arrives as soon as possible. Most families reserve their due dates during their second trimester or early in their third. This ensures that space is allotted in our calendar to photograph your baby during the ideal age. Rosio understands that your due date is only an estimate. We will reserve time on and around your due date, ensuring you have a spot in our schedule. Upon your baby’s arrival, you or someone you trust will contact the studio to arrange your actual session date. *To give each client the best service possible, Rosio books a limited number of portrait sessions per month. It is recommended that clients book newborn sessions as early as possible to ensure the availability of dates and avoid disappointment. Rosio will make every effort to accommodate late bookings whenever her schedule permits.

Where will my baby be photographed?

You can choose at your home or at the RMP private studio in Toronto. You’ll have access to Rosio’s extensive collection of blankets, wraps, buckets, headbands, bonnets, and other accessories to make your newborn session a success. Newborns photograph best in their natural state, so there’s no need for you to worry about outfits or anything at all. This is a time for parents to relax!

How long does a newborn session last?

All sessions are baby-led, meaning we work around the cues of your baby. We allow plenty of time for feeding, diaper changes, and soothing the baby — Sessions are never rushed! For mini newborn sessions last about 1 hour. The baby is wrapped in two beautiful different sets of wraps and props. For full newborn sessions, Rosio allows up to 4 hours to complete the session, although most sessions last about 3 hours. The baby is posed in two sets in the bean bag + two sets in wraps and props.

Can parents and siblings be a part of the session?

Absolutely!! We encourage the involvement of siblings and parents. We know how special the addition of a new member is, and we love it when the whole family is involved.

**Health & Safety

Newborn health and safety are Rosio’s top priorities. With children of her own and years working with young children, Rosio understands a newborn’s vulnerable immune system and takes every precaution to ensure the cleanliness and sanitation of her tools and props. In cases of photographer or client illnesses, sessions will be rescheduled. Rosio will never jeopardize a baby’s safety during a session. She will not pose your baby in unsafe ways or in unstable props. Poses are always simple and comfortable for your delicate new baby.

Should I reschedule the session because of baby acne or scratches?

Not at all! We are professionals and we can fix all that in editing. Babies, believe it or not, do not always have that creamy perfect skin, but we know how to remedy that for those precious moments on camera.
